Basil Oil is a great oil to diffuse when you need to uplift your mood, improve mental clarity and alertness, and it’s also great for memory. As a natural stimulant that works on the adrenal cortex and the nervous system as a whole, it’s also beneficial for fighting adrenal fatigue, brain fog, lack of energy, migraines, headaches, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and jet lag.
It has a calming effect on the nervous system, reduces stress, and helps promote deep sleep.
Diffuse it at least 2 hours before going to bed to help improve your sleep and also in the morning if you have a hard time getting out of bed, as it gently and naturally energizes the mind.
Allergies: Basil oil is from the mint family and it's a great replacement for peppermint; it's not as cooling but it's just as effective which may be more beneficial as some people feel colder especially when feeling sick. Also, basil oil is more beneficial than peppermint because it helps the nervous system relax more and induces a deeper sleep, which is helpful for most people who can't sleep when they're too congested.
Colds, bronchitis, other respiratory conditions, and overall support for respiratory health: since Basil is part of the mint family, it's a great substitute for peppermint oil. Use it through direct inhalation with the help of a nebulizer or diffuser.
Antimicrobial and antifungal: diffuse it in your home to fight yeast, mold and bacteria in general.
Overall well-being: diffuse it a few times a day for 30-60 minutes as needed to improve your overall immune system.
Whole body massage: dilute it in any carrier oil.
Arthritis, muscle aches and menstrual cramps: a few drops will create an aromatic bath to soothe these problems or apply a hot compress to the area of discomfort.
Aromatic bath: for a relaxing and uplifting spa experience at home dilute the oil in bath salts before adding to a full bath.
Culinary use: while fresh basil is a very popular ingredient, especially in Mediterranean cuisine as well as many other recipes, in its oil form, basil is much more powerful due to its high concentration. The compounds found in basil oil contain powerful antioxidants and other beneficial chemicals.
Since Basil is part of the mint family, it makes sense that is a great substitute for any recipe that requires peppermint. Add a drop of oil to your favorite recipes to replace the fresh herb (if the oil is a spice or fruit then replace the word accordingly as necessary) if you don’t have them at hand, or when you want to get more flavor to your recipe.
Unlike the fresh herb, which only lasts a couple days or the dry basil which lasts a couple of months, the essential oil will have a lasting aroma for much longer, which means it will save you more money in the long run.
Only USDA-certified organic oils have been deemed as safe for ingestion by FDA, so please be sure to use only CERTIFIED ORGANIC OILS, especially for internal use. All our essential oils are USDA organic. As a general rule, dilute one drop of oil in minimum of 4 fl ounces of liquid, and make sure you read first the safety considerations for this oil.
Since Basil is part of the mint family, it makes sense that is a great substitute for any recipe that requires peppermint.
Here are some common culinary uses for Basil oil (only use 1-3 drops/recipe):
- Add to a dipping dish with your favorite herbs for a spicy bread dipper
- Drizzle in soups! (especially in tomato soup) or pasta dishes
- Use it as a replacement when a recipe asks for peppermint or rosemary
- Use in marinades and sauces for an added zing!
- Mix 1 drop of Basil oil with 3-4 tbs of olive oil and use as a dressing with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella, chicken dinner, or fresh salad.
Anti-viral and microbial: add a drop to a quart of water or tea to help you fight against viruses and infections.
EXTRA TIP: if you live in a colder climate and find it harder to drink enough water on a daily basis especially during winter, try flavoring your warm (or not) water with 2-3 drops of Basil oil. You will be so pleased with the aromatic taste of your water, the basil-flavored water will clean your breath, it will decongest your airways, and make you feel invigorated and energized.
Shampoos, cosmetics and other personal care products: add a few drops directly into your toiletry containers.
Home Use: as a germ fighter or as an antibacterial solution add a few drops to a spray bottle filled with water and use it to clean your kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
Oil Specific: relatively non-toxic, but may cause irritation to people with sensitive skin. Avoid during pregnancy.
General: keep out of reach of children and pets. Not for internal use unless taken under the supervision or recommendation of an aromatherapist professional. Do not use undiluted on skin, eyes, or mucus membranes; it could cause allergic reactions. Always test first on a small portion of your skin. If you are pregnant, consult with a healthcare provider/ professional experienced with essential oils as some essential oil are less tolerated while others are well-loved by pregnant women.
Storage and Handling: the shelf life of ESSENTIAL OILS is usually around 1 year after they're opened, and up to 2 years when unopened. All essential oils oxidize and are subject to lose their therapeutic value and aromatic quality in time. Essential oils benefit from proper storage and handling. Avoid keeping essential oils in a location that is prone to sudden temperature changes such as the bathroom or kitchen. Store them in a cool, dark place, away from heat and light.
